Welcome to the Kauai Commons
Rooted in the land, the water, and the deep knowledge of the people of Kauai. This is your network, your ecosystem, for purpose-driven businesses that create solutions with a lasting, positive impact.
Kaua’i Commons is a first-of-its-kind incubator that fuses Indigenous wisdom with biomimicry and business strategy—turning Hawai‘i into a living blueprint for how humanity can thrive regeneratively on a finite planet. We blend the island’s ecological wisdom and Indigenous knowledge systems with the transformative power of biomimicry to catalyze a new model of economic stewardship. By creating experiential offerings, business incubation, and global consulting services, we support both local self-determination and off-island systems change.
The Problem
Kaua‘i is a place of profound wisdom—where native Hawaiians have long practiced sustainable ways of living. However:
Local displacement continues due to rising living costs and tourism pressures.
Ecological degradation is accelerating under extractive economic systems.
Global businesses seek regenerative solutions but often lack grounded frameworks or authentic connection to place.
There is a widening disconnect between Indigenous regenerative intelligence and the global business world.
Mission + vision
Our goal is to use biomimicry to elevate the traditional and regenerative intelligence of Kaua‘i and support economic and ecological healing.
We see a place where local ideas for local solutions thrive through regenerative entrepreneurship, showcase a model of regenerative living, and support global businesses in transitioning to a regenerative future.

Kalukalu @1624: A regenerative hub for economic resilience
Kalukalu @1624 is an evolving Economic Resilience Center in Kapaʻa, Kauaʻi, rooted in community, culture, and climate stewardship. Housed in the restored Otsuka Building and stewarded by Kaua‘i Federal Credit Union, this landmark project reimagines how place-based finance, Indigenous leadership, and regenerative economics can converge to serve the island’s long-term well-being.
In partnership with Waiwai Collective, a Native Hawaiian-owned organization, Kalukalu now offers a vibrant community space for:
Coworking and collaborative entrepreneurship
Cultural workshops and seasonal events
Art, music, and storytelling gatherings
Financial coaching and small business support
Local, regenerative economic development
Kalukalu @1624 is more than a building—it is a model for community-rooted regeneration and a beacon for a more equitable, resilient, and culturally rich future on Kaua‘i. With Kaua’i Commons as a primary tenant we believe that our mission and vision can be most powerfully served by being a co-owner in the vision and evolution of Kalukalu.
